[Daejeon=Daily Korea Reporter Lee Young-ho] Chungnam National University (President Kim Jeong-gyeom) Startup Support Group held an ‘Open Innovation Meetup Day’ to create new growth engines for companies in demand and accelerate startups’ market entry.
Chungnam National University Startup Support Group held an ‘Open Innovation Meetup Day’ on the 11th at the Human Resources Development Center Maruville with the participation of Jo Kwang Paint and promising local startups.
‘Open Innovation’ is a strategy for companies to achieve innovation by utilizing external organizations or resources in the process of research, development, and commercialization. This event was prepared to create a plan for mutual growth and innovation between large and medium-sized companies by combining startups’ technology, knowledge, and ideas with internal resources.
On this day, five promising local startups, including Jogwang Paint, a demand company that has embarked on discovering new businesses in materials, electricity/electronics, and ESG, and Viscure Co., Ltd., Palladium Biotech Co., Ltd., Enspectra Co., Ltd., DK Bio Co., Ltd., and STH Co., Ltd., participated in the Open Innovation Meetup through a separate selection process.
The five startups that participated this time and Jogwang Paint's New Business Division matched differentiated technologies and ideas through 1:1 business meetings for PoC (Proof of Concept) and discovered practical collaboration tasks.
The Startup Support Team plans to select the final Open Innovation startups through a presentation evaluation in January next year and, together with Jogwang Paint, will support the startups' development of new technologies and new products through follow-up support such as PoC commercialization funds and technology development (R&D) in 2025.
Chungnam National University holds ‘Open Innovation Meetup Day’
Seoul National University College of Engineering recently announced that it successfully completed the 'SNU Haedong Startup 5th Demo Day'.
At this event held on the 25th of last month at Building 38 of the College of Engineering, 18 excellent startup companies discovered and fostered by the 'SNU Haedong Junior Startup Program' over the past year received a total of 147 million won in business support funds and showcased innovative technologies and ideas in various fields.
The SNU Haedong Junior Startup Program is a startup support program that began in 2019 through an agreement between Seoul National University College of Engineering and the Haedong Science and Culture Foundation. It provides customized startup incubation services and operating funds to professors, students, and graduates preparing to start a business.
This program, which is now in its 5th year, has grown into a large-scale technology startup program with a total of 317 teams participating. In particular, the 5th program is evaluated to have further strengthened its expertise as a technology-based startup support program with the participation of 100 startup teams. The quantitative results, such as sales and investment attraction, achieved by the approximately 90 companies selected as excellent startup teams from the 1st to the 5th period are estimated to be over 50 billion won. If expanded to the performance of all participating companies, it is predicted that an economic value of approximately 100 billion won was created.
Dean Kim Young-oh of Seoul National University College of Engineering stated, “We are focusing on nurturing talents who are the main players in startups rather than fostering unicorn companies,” and “The excellent startup talents fostered by the program will lead the future with new technologies and entrepreneurial spirit.” Chairman Kim Young-jae of Haedong Science and Culture Foundation evaluated, “In this period, the passionate participation of many startup teams, especially graduate students, stood out, which means that this program has established itself as a cradle of future technological innovation,” and added, “I hope that the award-winning companies will overcome the difficulties of the early stages of startups and lay the foundation for growth that will take them to the next level through this support.”
Meanwhile, Seoul National University College of Engineering is promoting the creation of a world-class education and research environment and innovation in data-based engineering education under the goal of ‘nurturing leaders of global industry and society.’ Based on this vision, the SNU Haedong Junior Startup Program is playing a pivotal role in supporting technological innovation, startup ecosystem activation, and the growth of young entrepreneurs.
